Indian Summer is a beautiful time of year in Chicago. The long hot summer comes to a close as the air cools and frost starts to change the greenery to rich colored hues. Summer turns into fall. There are some terrific end of summer festivals in Chicago. The Viv! Chicago Latin Music Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival and Celtic-Fest Chicago are held at Grant Park on the Lake Michigan lake front. City officials recommend public transportation to the lake front festivals, as they attract large crowds and the traffic can be heavy.

August 25 - 26, 2007. Grant Park. Latin music from around the world. Latin music includes merengue, salsa, tropical, cumbias, ballads, ranchero and mariachi.. The two day festival features the beat of Late music and lively cultural traditions. The Viva Chicago Latin Music Festival is considered on of the largest of its kind in the Midwest. Chicago is home to Hispanics from around the globe. Hispanics come to America from Central America and the Caribbean. The diverse group is celebrated at the festival with art, music, dance, food and more. Music is a blend of Spanish, Caribbean, African and Indian. World renowned musicians will appear, including Moenia, Mike Roman and the Tellstars featuring Jose Feliciano. Admission Free.
August 30 - September 2, 2007. Grant Park. 29th annual jazz festival is the largest free festival in the world. Performances at the Petrillo Music Shell Stage, the Jazz and Family Heritage Stage and the Jazz on Jackson Stage. Labor Day weekend features three days of jazz entertainments. Features artists include Charlie Haden, John Medeski with John Scofield and Billy Martin and Chris Wood, Ernestine Anderson and Fred Wess, and the Mingus Bus Band. The Grant Park festival will also offer an art fair and refreshments. Admission Free/.
August 31 - September 3. Copernicus Foundation, 5216 West Lawrence, Chicago. Festival highlights Polish culture, featuring polka bands and a pierogi eating contest. The indoor outdoor festival features live Polish and American music on three stages. Music, folk dancing , demonstrations, food, contests, arts, crafts and more offer plenty of entertainment. Labor Day Weekend. Admission Adults $6, Seniors $3, children under 12 free.
September 7-9.; Lincoln Square, 4700 N. Lincoln. Chicago. German Day festival celebrates German traditions withs food tents, beer, wine, live German music and the annual Von Steuben Parade is at 2 pm on Saturday. Produced by the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago. Free Admission.
September 15-16, 2007. Grant Park. Petrillo Music Shell. Celtic Fest celebrates Celtic music, dance, art, and cuisine. Celtic regions include Brittany, France, Ireland, Galicia, Spain, Scotland, Island of Man, Cornwall, Wales, Nova Scotia and the United States. Musicians perform traditional tunes and more contemporary music with a Celtic influence. Stages include the Petrillo Music Shell, Celtic Crossroads Stages, next Generation Tent, Uilleann Pipe Tionol, Dance Stage, The Harp Tent, AT&T Celtic Voice Tent and the O'Canada Gathering Tent. Music, traditional storytelling and dancing takes place on ten stages. The Celtic Art Fair brings artisans from all over the world to sell their hand-made arts, crafts, knitwear and paintings. Free Admission.
September 26-30. 3000 N. Lincoln Ave at South Port, Chicago, IL.Traditional German music and German food are featured at this celebration. Admission $5.
