Windy City Festively Decorated with Bright Holiday Lights for Xmas

Chicago is magical during the holiday season. Lights, decorations, shopping, festivities and Santa Claus delight the entire family.

The City of Chicago is magical during the Christmas season. Everywhere you look there are light shows, decorations and festivities. Outstanding Christmas celebrations and light shows include the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, Winter WonderFest at Navy Pier, Hancock Holiday Mountain, A Great View and Santa Too at the John Hancock Observatory and the German Christkindlmarkt at Daley Plaza.

The Magnificent Mile 2007 Lights Festival on November 17 is presented by Harris Bank. For 40 years the illumination of the lights on North Michigan Avenue's Magnificent Mile has signaled the beginning of the Holiday Season. Over one million lights are brightly lit. The magnificent display is culminated in a spectacular fireworks show over the Chicago River. There will be festive events and entertainment throughout this special day. At 6 pm Mickey Mouse will perform as Master of Ceremonies to lead the illumination of more that one million lights. The following fireworks display, at 6:55 pm, will be televised on ABC 7. The Magnificent Mile is famous for upscale shopping, so this is a great day to spend in the city to shop and enjoy the light show.. Stores will be open until 10:00 pm. Enjoy the fabulous light spectacle throughout the holiday season.

Santa Claus is Coming to Navy Pier on November 25. Santa and Mrs. Claus and friends will arrive by boat. The Jolly Old Elf's arrival will be heralded by a fireworks show. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at Navy Pier until December 23.

Bank of America Winter WonderFest at Navy Pier. Navy Pier, one of Chicago's most popular attractions is brightly lit with over 750,000 lights and beautifully decorated during the holidays. Winter Wonderfest features hundreds of lush decorated trees, Arctic Ice Skating Rink, sparkling lights, the huge ferris wheel, carnival rides, entertainment and shows, a main town square and fun for the whole family. The Reindeer Express Train Ride takes the family fro a ride of more then 300 feet around the holiday village. Winter Wonderfest runs from December 7 to January 6.

Hancock Holiday Mountain Railroad at the John Hancock Building on Michigan Avenue. The 14th Annual Hancock Holiday Mountain Railroad is a miniature Christmas scene taking up 1,400 square feet.. Twelve model freight and passenger trains wind through snow covered trees, mountains, and decorated villages. which are decorated for the holidays. The mountain railroad's whimsical scenes include an animated tree farm, a Snowman family, a cable car to Rudolph's Island of Misfit toys, ski slope and skating rink, a working Christmas Carnival, Cows on Parade, a reindeer bar and a Christmas Village. The Mountain Railroad will be on display from November 14 through January 2. The Mountain Railroad Train Display is free.

A Great View and Santa Too! at the John Hancock Observatory. Visitors to the John Hancock Observatory will experience wintry views spanning up to 80 miles and four states. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be riding the cherry red sleigh into town on November 17 and will appear through December 24. Visitors will receive one complimentary digital image with Santa. Tickets to the Observatory are: Adults $10.25 and Children $6.50.

The German Christmas Market on Daley Plaza. Chicago imports the Nurnburg Christkindlmarkt for an excellent Old World Xmas experience. The grand opening of the market takes place on Thanksgiving weekend. Visit Santa Claus at Santa's shop will be under the gigantic Christmas Tree.

Travel around the City of Chicago on the Free Holiday Trolley. The trolley stops at, or near, the major Chicago Attractions. The free trolley is a convenient way to get around the busy city.

The City of Chicago and the Chicagoland area are decorated with magnificent decorations for the Christmas holidays.
