Bristol Renaissance Faire captivates visitors with the spectrum of revelry and entertainment. The framework of the faire is a summer day in 1574. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth visited the English hamlet of Bristol in England. Queen Elizabeth and historically based characters are juxtaposed with fictional scenarios. Robin Hood and his Merry Men play act street fighting escapades.
Gallant knights jousting on horseback put on a show several times a day. Scheduled shows feature jousting knights on horseback, dancers, swashbuckling swordsmen, musicians, comedians and an eclectic assortment of performers. Costumed actors and performers entertain and interact with the audience, drawing spectators into the show.
The marketplace is in the village. Stroll along well worn dirt pathways and browse through more than 175 unique shops, tents and carts. Vendors offer a myriad of merchandise in the medieval spirit of the Renaissance Faire.
Fans of Ren faires often get into the act, wearing fantasy costumes and interacting with the character actors. Stroll the dirt paths of the village and see bawdy wenches, faeries, belly dancers, minstrals, musicians, magicians, fooles, ghouls and a whole cast of colorful characters.
Strolling the dirt lanes of the wooded fair grounds can build a hardy appetite. Food specialties sold at the festival include a satisfying variety, such as roasted turkey legs, barbecued ribs, skewered, sauteed garlic mushrooms, steak sandwiches, tempura, grilled chicken, ice cream and fruit crepes. Hearty festival food can be washed down by a thirst quenching ale, fine wine, mead, iced tea or lemonade. There is a food booth lane in the village. Liquid refreshments can be found throughout the festival grounds.

Bristol Renaissance Faire celebrates its 21st anniversary this year. over the past 21 years, the festival has transported about three million guests back into the 16th century. Bristol Renaissance Faire opened in the summer of 1988. The faire in on the 30 acre grounds that had been the site of King Richard's Renaissance Faire. Bristol management built a permanent village of shops, pubs and performance stages. Bristol Ren-Faire is one of the premiere fantasy festivals in America. Approximately 200,000 visitors are expected to pass through the gates this year.
Tickets are available as general admission, season pass and Faire Fun Pack. One Grand Opening Weekend, discounted tickets are available at the gate.
There is parking for a fee at the festival grounds.
